The Conservatory Gardens 

The Conservatory Gardens tend to be where the larger weddings take place.  The Central Park Conservatory Gardens are divided into three smaller gardens, each with a distinct style; Italian, French and English.  When applying for an event permit for a wedding there, couples need to choose one of these gardens.  

The main entrance to the Conservatory Gardens is on Fifth Avenue between 104th and 105th Streets, through the ornate and beautiful Vanderbilt Gate, which is a striking spot for a photo of a bride and/or groom before their wedding.  Because the Conservatory Gardens are quite far north, it is a quieter setting for a wedding, but that does mean that it is a long walk through Central Park or a short cab ride for a few blocks to get to the more iconic and well-known places if you would like photographs taken there.

The reason why the Conservatory Gardens are generally where larger weddings take place in Central Park is partly because there are some bigger spaces here, but partly because it’s quieter at this northern end of Central Park.  You would be among more locals than tourists in this area if you do have passers-by around while a wedding takes place.  

Please note that the Central Park Conservancy charges a higher fee for a permit to be married in the Conservatory Gardens than all the other popular locations for a wedding ceremony in Central Park.  Email me for more information on this.  The maximum guests allowed for an event permit issued for a wedding here is 100 people.
